Flamboyan Bonsai root over rock (translated)

in bonsai •  6 years ago

Hi, hi! I introduce you to Flan.

I'm back :3... I come here to share my root over rock bonsai that I planted one year ago from a seed. It's from a tree called flamboyant in Venezuela and its cientific name is Delonix regia, and in other countries is known as malinche, ponciana, framboyán, flamboyán or acacia.

And I've named it Flan of affection... :V

Here you can see I had it in a normal plastic pot's plate, that was very simple so I decided it was time to change it and put it in other pot more beautiful and a little bigger. Also it needed "a careess" because had most of the moss dry and needed more soil. So I started working :3.

Materials:

  • Bonsai
  • Wet soil
  • Moss
  • Garden tools like mini shovel and rake
  • Future pot
  • Water

I didn't take a photo of my water sprayer, but don't forget to have it, we must to use a lot of water on the substrat so it's more muddy and it be favourable for the bonsai that is suffering transplant stress, for the moss and become the soil as a perfect mass to mold

Process:

The firts step we must to do (in addition to having the entire work area ready with the materials) is remove the surface layer of muss for take out bonsai tree more easily. In my case, grew other plants in the substract, even a lemon plant that I take out carefully to don't broke its roots.
It was easy because I just cut the moss it dropped as pieces (we'll use them later, so that is no big deal).

Next we must to do is obviously take out the little tree of that old and ugly pot (?) and I used cotton thread to hold roots on the rock, so I would to take it away because it was deteriorated and I added a new thread carefully surrounding the rock.

The last step we must to do after we set the tree on the rock, is stablish a position into the new pot like you imagine it.
We must to add soil, integrated by garden soil very wet and moss (I had saved dry moss). This tree don't have big requirements, is very strong and support the sun very well if it watered frequently. The pot I chose don't have drain holes so that can save more water.
We need to fill all empty gaps between the moss' pieces so that the moss can expand it uniformly.

I plan to widen its stock, I want to see it stronger and larger like the natural trees. So I'll have to plant it in the ground or a bigger pot for it can grow faster.
Before I didn't because I wanted to see how it grew in that conditions, but is very slow.

Now it is a baby yet and it've suffered some accidents, but is a strong tree and support many weather conditions (even support me xD), I recommend it if you want to make a bonsai tree from seed, it germinate very fast. In my case, it germinated in less than a week. What I don't know is how is it in cold climates. Because here the weather is always sunny (welcome to a tropical island in the Caribbean XD).
I hope that this can help to people want to start in the bonsais' art and you've enjoyed Flan's pictures (what a fool name hahaha).

Bye!
