As human beings, anything that comes easy to us, we tend to take them for granted. Whether it’s our dream car, a new promotion at work, a skill easily acquired, or someone that loves us unconditionally, we almost always overlook those things in our pursuit of the next best thing. We would rather long for what will be than taking our time to enjoy, appreciate, or improve what already is.
Personally, I’m a victim of this erroneous way of thinking.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always have a passion for books; and writing comes to me rather easily. I’ve explored it for a while, then, for no apparent reason, I’ve given it up. I’ve stopped writing all together. Nothing. But I kept on telling myself that I would get back to it when I get good at it. However, how can one expect to get better at something he or she is not currently working on? Silly me, right? But I didn’t know back then what I know now.
Not long ago, I was having a very interesting conversation with @pouchon, a friend of mine. I was telling him about how much I used to love writing back in the days. He quickly stopped me and introduced me to Steemit. Saying that if what I said is true, I was going to love this new platform. Indeed, he was right. I love Steemit; that’s why I use every opportunity I get to know more about it.
And today, I stumbled on to this post by @tressareid in which she talks about the gifts we possess but tend to overlook. She urges us to think about the one thing we would still want to do in order to bring value to the world -paraphrasing her words- if we didn’t have to work another day in our lives. That last sentence got me thinking and evaluating my personal life. She then ended the post by challenging us to talk about what our next moves will be, using the tag #mynextmoves.
@tressareid, great post by the way.
So, relating to the idea that’s been circulating throughout this post, I will take on this challenge by talking about my writing goals as #mynextmoves. I want to finish writing my first book this year. No pressure (laugh). Also, as an aspiring writer, songwriting has always been a new direction I wanted to take with my writing as well. I’ll do this by trying to come up with at least one song a month; it certainly won’t be easy, but I know for sure that it’ll worth it. And since a great writer is also a ferocious reader, I set the goal to read one book a month. Those are not big moves by any means, it’s just a start.
Thank you for that post, it's realy reveal a lot of things that I am taking for granted
