This month was another incredible book month for me and I am so happy that I am literally walking on cloud 9!!
I got a truckload of books from the first Bargain Books SA (https://www.bargainbooks.co.za/) Warehouse Sale of the year!! Again!! But I also got some from other places, too.
Want to see what I got?
Bargain Books : Century City
My first book of the month I bought to celebrate the fact that I could attend Cape Town Pride for the first time in 6 years!! Well, it's a boxed trilogy, so three books, then...
The Grishaverse Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
Ever since reading the Six of Crows duology, and discovering Leigh Bardugo's writing for the first time, I have wanted to get my grubby little paws on this series! So, of course, when the opportunity presented itself, I just had to grab it with both hands!!
There was an added bonus with this purchase because Bargain Books was celebrating their 21st Birthday and everything in their stores was an additional 20% off!
Perfect way to start the month!
Instagram Book Swap - #SABookSwap
To find out more about this, do have a look at my previous post: #PinkItUp : Stalking Jack The Ripper - Handmade Goodies To Send As Gifts (Or Keep For Yourself)
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
My partner originally planned her box around Siege and Storm but I inadvertantly threw a spanner in the works by spoiling myself when I bought the boxed set.
Instead, she replaced the book with King of Scars and I couldn't be happier; it was awesome getting the next Bardugo book, because I a) don't have to pause reading indefinitely, and b) now own ALL of Leigh Bardugos Grishaverse books!!!
The rest of the goodies in the box were very well thought out and put together... Maybe my next post will be the unboxing (which I should have posted earlier, though) - we'll see.
Books Galore At Bargain Prices!
The very first Bargain Books Warehouse Sale of 2019 happened on 21 March and everyone walked away with armloads of books, literally!
There are 2, that's right - TWO, warehouses full of books; covering every genre imaginable - and more - there is always something to be found for everyone!!
Hardbacks:
Warcross by Marie Lu
This book was taken as a last minute decision; I wasn't really into it, knowing virtually nothing about the book or the author - and it was only available in hardback...
But I am super glad that I did take it, eventually, because I remembered about the amazing naked cover!!! Insert "heart eyes" here.
The Battlemage by Sebastien de Castell
Having bought book 1, The Novice, and book 2, The Inquisition, at the previous sale, I was definitely keeping my eyes open for book number 3.
Unfortunately, there were no book 3's anywhere to be found... I was wallowing in my despair, on the verge of tears when I spotted this hardback out the corner of my eye.
Since this was the only copy of Battlemage available at the sale, I literally had no other choice than to take it...not that I regret it; It doesn't match the other 2 but I'm actually really glad I took it - I even want to get the others in hardback, now - because look at that cover under the dust jacket!!! More "heart eyes" here.
Trade Paperbacks (Tradebacks):
I don't understand why tradebacks exist, or what good they do, but I'm certainly not complaining about their existence; if there isn't a paperback version available, you may just find it in tradeback form.
The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton
I actually passed over this book at every single sale last year, I kid you not - at first glance, this book didn't seem like something I would enjoy, but, having recently found out that this is classified as a Fantasy, I decided to pick it up.
The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor
Honestly, I have no idea how I ended up with this one... Al I know is that I'm trying to be more diverse in my reading and that this book seemed to be everywhere lately, so why the heck not?
Queen Of Air And Darkness by Cassandra Clare
Of course I had to get this book. It completes the trilogy and I am finally able to read them, but I most likely will wait until I have the Clockwork series before I read more...
An Illustrated History Of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens Of Downworld by Cassandra Clare; illustrated by Cassandra Jean
I grabbed this book to add to my shaowhunters collection, I suppose, but the inside is super gorgeous and everyone should have one!
Everless for Sara Holland
Everless landed in my trolley purely because of my curiosity...
Paperbacks:
Kingdom Of Ash by Sarah J Maas
Are you kidding?!? I absolutely needed this book; it was truly a matter of life or death! The fact that this book just happened to be the first book in my trolley is entirely irrelevant...
The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan & Maureen Johnson
I've been wanting this book ever since reading The Mortal Instruments, because - let's face it - Bane is life!!! I was super to glad to see more than 1 copy of this at the sale so into my trolley it did go.
Ace Of Shades by Amanda Foody
I saw this book on Instragram when it was sent to people for reviews and I was completely intrigued; imagine my surprise when I found this at the sale - super happy right now!
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
This is another book I'm curious about, to be honest. I don't want to watch the movie before reading the book, so it has been on my "to buy" list for a while now - this was the first time it was available at the sale compared to books 2 & 3.
L1felik3 by Jay Kristoff
Seen it. Heard things. Wanted it. Got it.
Non - Fiction:
I usually buy Non Fiction for the other readers in my house, but I have been know to read one, here and there...
My Non Fiction haul comprises of 1 tradeback and 2 paperbacks; because it has it own category, I did not list them above.
Bossypants by Tina Fey
I also enjoy watching stand-up comedians and Tina Fey has been a fave of mine for some time, so I figured, "hey, its got to be funny..." and it landed in my basket. I have been wanting to read this for a very long time, you know, it has just never made to my priority list... perfect opportunity.
The Unexploded Boer by Erich Rautenbach
Funny thing about this book is that not only all the people in my household, but indeed most of my extended family and circle of friends, would all want to read this book...
SYNOPSIS
Erich Rautenbach's autobiographical account concerns a few years in his life in South Africa immediately after he left school in the early 1970s. Ignoring his call-up for national service, Erich begins a wandering existence as a marijuana dealer, drifting between his supplier in KwaZulu and his outlets in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Eventually he is apprehended, and after a time in John Vorster Square and The Fort in Johannesburg, he is sent to Sterkfontein Sanatorium for 28 days' observation and testing to determine his sanity. But Erich has other ideas and plans to escape.
This book recreates the subculture of Johannesburg and Cape Town and provides a commentary on the paranoia and neurosis of the apartheid state. The particular value of this story is in the way it is told. In its zany, unconventional way of reporting on reality, it is reminiscent of the American Beat Generation of the 1950s.
We didn't have the budget to grab this book back in September, and I wasn't looking for it at the December sale, but we had to get it now - it was a sign!
I Am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck
This book combines a mix of prose and poetry to tell the story of Civil Rights Activist, James Baldwin, who wanted to tell the story of America through the lives of his murdered friends, Medgar Evars, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King - he died before it could be completed.
This was purely a pick by my sister-in-law, Zukiswa, for my sister-in-law...
New For My Harry Potter Shelf:
Of course, as always, I'm saving the best for last...!
Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets Ravenclaw Edition by J. K. Rowling
Even though these weren't available at the sale, I still ended up with one in my trolley.
The amazing people at the Warehouse put this into my hands while I was shopping at the pre-sale; turns out that they specifically kept a copy for me because I'm a Ravenclaw and I need one - they are so sweet!

Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone Illustrated Paperback by J. K. Rowling, illustrated by Jim Kay
Finding this book was another happy accident. I was about to leave and pay for the books that I picked at the pre-sale when I saw this flash from the corner of my eye; lo and behold, it turned out to be this - unfortunately, this seemed to be the only copy among all those books and I was fortunate, indeed.
The Tales Of Beedle The Bard Illustrated Edition by J. K. Rowling, illustrated by Chris Riddell
Because I found The Philosopher's Stone, my brain went into "super notice" mode and that is why I found a small stack of The Bard's; which, of course, was an absolute must get, because not only do I need it for my collection, but I saved like R500 - R700!!
Fantastic Beasts : The Crimes Of Grindlewald Original Screenplay by J. K. Rowling
This book was obviously much sought after; luckily, there were plenty available.
Since this was on my list, I had to get it - and the rest is history!
Save The Date!
If you are in or around Cape Town, or intend making a trip for business or pleasure, then be sure to make a turn at the next Warehouse Book Sale on Wednesday 1 May 2019, Worker's Day!
My little home library is growing by leaps and bounds! If only my book shelves would just magically alter themselves to make space for every new book - that would be great!
Have you read any of these books? Do share your thoughts with me in the comment section below, but please keep them spoiler free. Until next time...
Keep smiling
