Last year I heard talk all over Instagram about people taking their O. W. L. exams (inspired by the Harry Potter wizarding exams) and I was totally intrigued - I love a good Readathon!
So this year, after doing a little digging into the matter, I have decided to sit my O. W. L. exams, as well.
What on earth am I talking about? Watch this video from book_roast first:
All caught up? Good.
book_roast has made it super interesting this year by compiling a list of "Wizarding Jobs", which includes the subjects needed, from which readers can choose (found in the comments section of the above video) or you can just read as many books as you like, as long as it falls within the prompts, which she also created, of each wizard class.
There are 12 Classes and a prompt that corresponds to each and each job has certain requirements... for example, I chose to work towards becoming an Auror, so in order to do this I need to qualify - in this instance, I'm required to take the following subjects : Charms, Defense Against The Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions and Transfiguration.
Believe me, I had an incredibly hard time choosing which books I want to read - these prompts are harder than they look...
So, after much agonising deliberation, I present to you my final choices:
CHARMS (Age Line: Read An Adult Work) : Circe
I had the most difficulty with this prompt in particular - I even had to post polls on Insta asking everyone their opinions on which books qualified - I decided to go with Circe by Madeline Miller.
This book has done the rounds on Instagram recently and everyone has only good things to say about it. The fact that I enjoy Mythology is also a plus, but I've really wanted to read this book for a while - no better time than the present.
UPDATE: I'm 2 chapters in and I'm totally mesmerised...
DADA (Reducto: Title Starts With R) : Red Sister
This was a choice that was kinda made for me...
Since Red Sister by Mark Lawrence is truly the only book I could find starting with "R" - doesn't mean I don't have more, just that I didn't do an in depth search of my entire library - it definitely had to go on the list! Which isn't a problem, really, because my brother has already read these and enjoyed them; so now, of course, my curiosity is killing me!
HERBOLOGY (Plant On The Cover) : This Savage Song
Finally!! I get to read my very first V. E. Schwab book; it has been quite a struggle for me getting any of her books... But I finally have one!
It is not such a very big secret why This Savage Song by V. E. Schwab made it onto my list, now is it?
UPDATE: Done! 5/5
POTIONS (Next Ingredient: Sequel) : Shadowblack
Shadowblack by Sebastien De Castell was literally the first book on my list - no hesitation, whatsoever!
After reading, book 1, Spellslinger, not so long ago - which I absoluetly loved - my choice for a sequel was a definite shoe in.
Although, I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should swop this out for Kingdom of Ash instead....?
TRANSFIGURATION (Sprayed Edges/Red Cover) : Enders
Because I've been wanting to read Enders by Lissa Price for the longest time, this was another very easy choice to make; aside from the fact that I don't have very many sprayed edge books to choose from...
I read Starters a couple of years ago, which I found in a second hand bookshop, and really enjoyed it - have been curious as to know, "what next?"
"Ordinary. Wizarding. Level. Examinations. More commonly known as 'Owls'. Study hard and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so and the consequences may be... severe." - Professor Umbridge, J. K. Rowling
Are you also participating in this #Readathon? Which career are you looking to pursue? What does your TBR look like? I really want to know, so hit me up in the comments below!
