Scrum emerged about twenty years ago as an effective method of increasing productivity in software development. Having gained popularity in Silicon Valley, Scrum quickly gained acceptance in other business sectors. Its founders, Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, have studied global best practices of successful companies and concluded that the cascade model* formerly used to work on IT projects was hopelessly outdated. It did not meet the expectations of clients because the work was moving slowly, strictly according to a long-term plan, and often the output was not the product that was really needed. The systematic top-down management of a project creates the illusion of control and confidence in the process, but in reality, the result is unpredictable. Despite the presence of kilos of paper with detailed plans, justifications, graphs and tables, deadlines are missed, budgets are exceeded, and employees are frustrated, feeling that their work is useless.....
