DFW was one of the first authors I remember actively pursuing every time I went to the bookstore. I bought "Infinite Jest" first, as that was the one making so many waves at the time. I have not yet been successful in my attempts to finish the book, though. I did, however, enjoy several of his other, lesser acclaimed books.
So it's interesting to see what kind of class he would teach. What kinds of books would he want his students to read and the reasoning for said choices, which isn't always laid out on a professor's syllabus.

Infinite Jest is on my wish list right now. I was introduced to DFW by his "This is Water" speech and have been wanting to read more of his work ever since.

"This is Water" is a fantastic speech. so much truth getting dropped on those college students. for what it's worth, i really enjoyed "Broom of the System" if you're looking for a smaller, less dense work of his to dig into first.

Good to know! I will look for that. And yes, much truth for them and whoever has heard it or read it since. I needed his eloquent advice when I came across it and I revisit it anytime I need a reminder.
