[Book Club]: The Page Dwellers Update - Vote for August's Book in Here!

in books •  7 years ago

You have 72 hours to cast your vote for next month's book. This list was taken all from recommendations in the comments of the last thread:

Book Choices for August

(1) Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Few creatures of horror have seized readers' imaginations and held them for so long as the anguished monster of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

(2) The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde

In this celebrated work, his only novel, Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England.

(3)A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

''Beginning and ending with some of English literature's most famous lines, Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities thrives on tension and conflict, all set against a bloody backdrop of the French Revolution . . . . Through the senses, Dickens transports us deeper and deeper into another era with each turn of the page.

(4)Persuasion by Jane Austen

First published in 1818, Persuasion was Jane Austen's last work. Its mellow character and autumnal tone have long made it a favorite with Austen readers.

(5)Redburn by Herman Melville

Drawn from Melville's own adolescent experience aboard a merchant ship, "Redburn charts the coming-of-age of Wellingborough Redburn, a young innocent who embarks on a crossing to Liverpool together with a roguish crew.

How to Cast Your Vote

Everybody votes for up to TWO books. Just leave a comment on this thread with your votes. After 72 hours, I will tally up the votes, and whichever book gets the most votes wins and becomes our pick for august.

If there's a tie, we will do a revote just between the two tied books.
