Umur buku anak-anak ini sudah setengah abad sejak pertama kali diterbitkan tahun 1967. Buku yang ditulis oleh Bill Martin Jr ini merupakan salah satu buku klasik favorit anak-anak pra sekolah di Amerika.

Unik kan gambarnya? Bukan gambar kartun biasa, tapi gambar ini semacam kolase dari kertas tisu yang merupakan ciri khas karya Bill Martin Jr. Ukurannya yang besar sangat cocok untuk menarik perhatian anak-anak. Ditambah lagi warna tiap gambar yang mencolok sangat membantu anak-anak mengingat berbagai macam warna.

Teks yang ditulispun sangat minimalis. Dan yang paling menarik adalah penyajian teks yang repetitif sehingga anak-anak akan mudah menerka kalimat di halaman selanjutnya. Simak saja cuplikan teksnya ini.

Sekitar 5 tahun yang lalu, saya ingin sekali punya buku ini tapi tidak ada yang jual di Indonesia. Jadi saya ‘menjiplak’ buku ini dengan cara melukisnya. Ini beberapa contohnya.

Di bagian akhir buku, saya membuat bermacam-macam warna supaya anak saya mengenal semua warna dasar yang ada.

Saat ini sudah banyak marketplace yang menjual buku impor ini. Teman-teman yang punya anak balita, silahkan mengkoleksi buku ini. Anak-anak pasti langsung jatuh cinta pada buku ini, apalagi kalau orang tuanya membacakan dengan antusias.

This children book is already half century old since it was first published in 1967. This book written by Bill Martin Jr has been one of favorite classic books among pre-schoolers in America.

What's so special about it? Let's take a look at the pictures.

They are unique, aren’t they? The pictures are not ordinary cartoon images, but they are some kind of tissue paper collages which is the special characteristic of Bill Martin Jr's books. Their large size is perfect for attracting children's attention. Plus, the bold colors are very helpful for children to remember colors well.

The text is also very little. And the most interesting point is the repetitive text presentation so that the children will easily guess the sentence in the following page. Just look at this text.

I see a red bird looking at me.

Red bird, red bird, what do you see?
I see a yellow duck looking at me.

Yellow duck, yellow duck, what do you see?

And so on with the changing of animals.

About 5 years ago, I wanted to have this book but I couldn’t find any shops selling this particular book in Indonesia. So I 'copied' this book by painting it. Here are some examples.

At the end of the book, I painted colors so that my children are familiar with all basic colors.

Currently there are many marketplaces selling this imported book. For those who have pre schoolers, you can add this book into your collection. Children will fall in love with this book, especially if their parents read it aloud with enthusiasm.
