Story behind criminal section called McNaughton rule

Back in Britain during 1800's a person named McNaughton killed a man called Edward Drummond... after discussions in panel of court finally McNaughton released free.
McNaughton used to have many financial and social problems.
He belived that all his troubles are because Robert Peel (the then prime minister) is planning and plotting all ailments againt him(DELUSION OF PERSECUTION).
He even belived Robert Peel is the being disguised in mask of Edward Drummond(PARANOID).
Hence shot Edward thinking him to be Robert who he belived responsible for causing his problems.
Here McNaughton was considered mentally ill person and released free of guilt...hence made McNaughtons rule and such people comitting crimes are sent to metal illness wards instead of prison...
