Rare Book of the Day – The Cadaver of Gideon Wyck, Alexander Laing. First Edition.

in books •  7 years ago

Here's a scarce title, with a stunning jacket and frontispiece by one of my favorite artists, Lynd Ward. You may remember him from by Gods' Man post last week. The Cadaver of Gideon Wyck, by Alexander Laing, is an early horror novel of sorts (published in 1934) concerned with medical experimentation and the perils of genetic meddling.

Here's Ward's frontispiece (I love this kind of stuff):

And my favorite part is the public health warning from the publishers on the back of the jacket:

Oh man, I love these sorts of kitschy old intros!

It's good to see you back on steemit, you vanished for a long while there!

Ah ha haa! Now that is what I call a disclaimer. Genetic Meddling eh? Sounds evil indeed. :)
