There are many reason to like Little Women. One being the realistic character and the lessons we can learn from them.
Every characters in the novel stand on their own and don't need to lean on the other to make them whole. The are life like and teach us the lessons of life we can hold on to which is why this is going to be one of the story I am going to tell my children every night to their bed.
Marmee: Liberating Mother
Marmee happens to mother the four women in Victorian era where women were regarded as nothing but a marriage material and women themselves compete to get the rich man to live a comfortable life. Yet she never passes on this notion to her daughters. She taught them to find the meaning of their life and live by them. She encouraged them to make the choice for themselves and never let the burden of women bind them.Meg: Loving Soul
Meg doesn't make big decision in her life but decided to marry the man she loves and have children. She was so beautiful that she could have easily married the rich man but she chose love over money. This simple act of marrying made her extra ordinary because she didn't marry to abide by the rules set by family. She did so because it was her choice to marry and become a mother.Jo: Rebellious Heroine
Jo like Meg decided a life of her own but she looks the rebellious of all because the decided to be a atypical girl of the time- to become a writer, earn money, provide for family and marry a man with nothing but a loving heart.Beth: Silent Motivator
Beth is the silent of all in the novel but her music resonates and motivate everyone. By never wanting anything big for herself but the warmth of music, home and love of her family, she motivated everyone. She accepted death calmly at early age and yet left memories to everyone.Amy: Straight head
Amy is the most practical character in the novel. She knows her limitation as a woman and artist. She could never be best artist and she doesn't want to be an average one. She knows she will never have money and is she ever does that will belong to her husband. She doesn't shy away from saying marriage is an economic prospects and desire to marry a rich man to live a comfortable life and help her poor family.Laurie: Fierce Fighter
Laurie, the boy living next door to the little women face the worst in live. He lost his parents, was always accused of not being enough American and is rejected by Jo. Yet he never lost his hope and kept on living his life in the best way he can. He was derailed for a while one he lost Jo but with support from Amy fought back living his life in gentleman way.Frederick Bhaer: Honesty At Its Best
Called Fred in short is blunt and honest. He doesn't shy away from condemning Jo for writing the story for money instead of writing the story she really wants to write. When approaching Jo for marriage he has nothing but an empty hands. He is okay with the fact and doesn't act like the a macho.
