Eye on Artists Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention

in boombox •  7 years ago

An Artist I like a lot who was big into goofy anti consumerism stuff is Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, perhaps you have heard the commons sense song "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow."

Another song about the complexities of the human condition is "Joe's Garage" that discusses playing in a band and the socialization process.

One time a Navy Band surpised the band and Frank at an airport, the cover is almost as good if not better than done by Frank himself.

Zappa also made fun of President Nixon with "Dickies Such an Asshole"

Zazppa also told stories of "Jewish Princess"

Or tales of relatives like "Uncle Remus"

Or tales of disgusting creations like "Let's Make the Water Turn Black"
"What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body " also talks about things people might be self conscious of

Though Zappa was usually joking around, "Plastic People " talks about this nonsense society and the in group and out group identificiation process.

Zappa was not just an interesting vocalists. His guitar solos could be major, one of my favorites is discussing a mystery man in "Cosmik Debris"

My favorite Zappa song is "I'm the Slime" I think it does a good job discussing the human condition post invention of the attention sucking screen. The rays of light and sounds provide a way to eat up people's conscious waking times with consumerist identities and perhaps other stuff.

Love Zappa, I named my cover band Pank Zappaland and did some of his music including Slime😀

nice!! Yea Slime's great, what else you play? Bobby Brown?

Pajama People, Dirty Love, Cosmic Debrix, Uncle Remus, Evelyn a Modified Dog. didn’t do Bobby Brown but was working up a couple of others including Camarillo Brillo, Stink-foot and the regular list of others you would suspect...http://markaustinband.com/pankzappaland/

Zappa rules - and other such comments posted in a bid to draw attention to the woefully underrated content I have produced.

I do genuinely love Zappa though. ;-)

nice, yea, good to put on some zappa, hope the weekend is going well for you bud!!

In my opinion, Zappa was the greatest music writer of the 20th century.

Wanna rock out? Zappas' got you.

Wanna be angry at the state of the world? Zappas' got you.

Wanna listen to orchestral music? Zappas got you.

He was a beast of a guitar player, and one of the most inventive composers of his time.

10/10 long live the grand wazoo!

Yea I could Zappa being the best, definitely one of the most prolific, amazing artist.

I still find songs by him that are fantastic. Never gonna be another one.

got thousands, one of if not the most prolific composers of the era

Just an amazing individual for sure. He had a vision that would not be compromised. The black and white footage of him early on is priceless. One huge aspect of Frank, is the fact that his music was so intense that he only wanted perfection. I mean he had Terry Bozzio! Jeff Beck!, two of my favs!
