Boston Bruins Shut out the Colorado Avalanche on the Road

The Colorado Avalanche get Stymied by Tuuka Rask and Face an Avalanche of Shots Against

The Boston Bruins according to my game notes completely dominated this game basically start to finish. There were moments when the Avalanche did make Tuuka Rask work for his 3rd shut out of the season, but mainly it was the Bruins pounding shots on the Colorado net. The Bruins out shot the Avalanche 46-20. Colorado also blocked 11 shots, and some shots missed the net, meaning the Bruins took well over 57 shots during this game. Likely around 65 or 70 shots total, which is an absolute "Avalanche of shots". Clearly being the second game in two days on the road did not effect the Bruins nor did the altitude in Denver. The Bruins won almost every loose puck battle throughout the game, and I thought played with a lot more passion than Colorado did.

Tuuka Rask is having a Career Year So Far

Tuuka gets his tenth win of the season improving to 10-1, in 11 games played. His numbers so far this season are 1.54 GAA Average (3rd in NHL), .945 Save % (4th in the NHL), and has 3 shutouts (1st in the NHL). Playing in front of a Bruins defensive Blue Line that I think is the weakest it has been in years. Tuuka has played very well this season, but he is a streaky sort of goalie like that. Tuuka throughout his career goes through stretches where he is in the zone, making it look easy, Then an injury will happen or he will make a few mental mistakes, or party too much and then it will all fall apart. So I don't know what to make of this start so far, will this continue for another 55 games or so from Tuuka and then a long playoff run? No one can say for sure, Tuuka is capable of it, he has all the skills necessary to be an elite goalie, but can he capitalize on this great start and win a Vezina? Only time will tell. What do you think? Please leave predictions below in the comment field.

Jerome Iginla Passes Wayne Gretzky in Games Played

Jerome Iginla, one of my favorite players ever to don the Boston Bruins Jersey, passed Wayne Gretzky in games played in this tilt versus the Boston Bruins. Iginla has now played 1,488 games at the NHL level. He started in an era of big time hits where player's like Scott Stevens wreaked havoc on the ice, to a new faster NHL, since the lockout rules changes. Iginla is one of the all time great all around NHL player's who not only is 16th on the all time goals list with 611 regular season goals, but also has almost a 1,000 penalties in minutes; 997 exactly because he has been a fighter his whole career, and a good one at that. Iginla has always been a two way player who plays both ends of the ice, and throws his weight around. The fact he has played such a rough and tumble game and has amassed so many points and games played is incredible. It is really unfortunate he has not yet won a Stanley Cup. I wish he was still a Boston Bruin but Colorado way over paid for him at this stage of his career. This is one of the only records of Wayne Gretzky anyone will beat. Gretzky's numbers for points and goals will never ever be touched unless the NHL changes the game dramatically to be more offensive and even then, I doubt anyone will touch those numbers.

Bruin's win a tough Road Game - Conclusion Optimistic

This Boston Bruin's team is starting to show they are something to be taken legitimately this season and not just another team that will miss the playoffs. One of the biggest concerns I had this year was the goaltender situation as Rask started the year off hurt and ended last season horribly. Since, Rask has done nothing but play great, except when he hid on the bench versus Montreal, other than that he is having a career year. The Bruins forwards lines look impressive this year, the first line of Bergeron Marchand Pastrnak every shift is putting pressure on the offensive zone even in tough games. The second line is coming together with Spooner Backes and Krecji, and the other lines are playing well. Czarnik continues to be the highlight of the 3rd and fourth lines. The Bruins defense is also looking way better than I expected them to be, that could be because Rask has been excellent, but the Bruins defense is not playing terrible. Torey Krug has stepped up his game the last few games as well. So things are trending positive for the Bruins to potentially be a mid range playoff team, which means in the NHL they got a chance to make a deep playoff run.
