Bruins Light up the Blue Jackets in the First Period with Four Goals
You can't win a game in the First Period, but you can certainly lose a game. The Columbus Blue Jackets who are the team most dependent on leading in a game to win, got the first goal of the game. Then the Bruins took over the game it was all over for the Blue Jackets. The Bruins didn't win this game in the first because they still had to defend the lead the rest of the game. However the Blue Jackets gave up in my opinion, after the fourth Bruins goal the game noticeably slowed down for the rest of the night. The Bruins played a really solid game throughout, they only let up one more accidental "self goal" in the third period.
Nick Foligno Blue Jackets Captain best Player for CBJ Night in Night Out
Nick Foligno scored the opening goal of the night in this game. The only goal that the Blue Jackets would get on the night. Other than a self goal by the Bruins they would get credited for. Foligno is not the most talented player on the Blue Jackets, but because of his grit and determination he is their best player currently. He was only a minus 1 on the night, in a game the Blue Jackets would surrender 5 goals against. Throughout the night Foligno kept playing his hardest despite how it seemed like the rest of the Blue Jackets had concrete in their skates.
Krecji and Backes Line Lead the way in Scoring for Bruins against Blue Jackets
The first goal of the game for the Bruins was a great one timer shot by Torey Krug, after David Krecji did a lot of hard work getting the puck to him in a perfect spot to nail it in. The puck actually bounced off the butt of a CBJ defenseman and slightly changed direction on the way in. Krug who has a decent shot got his first goal of the year. Backes also assisted. Later in the game in the second period Spooner, Krecji and Backes would combine for another excellent one timer goal. Backes burying the bruins fifth straight goal and their last in the second period. This Bruins line looks like it is set, Backes Krecji Spooner. This is a pretty good line but... would have been better with Jimmy Vesey on it! Just saying.
Austin Czarnik shines again in Bruins win, Gets Second NHL Goal of His Career
Austin Czarnik as I have been saying is really shining as a rookie on the Boston Bruins. He has just put up his best performance of his young career against the Blue Jackets. Czarnik is just faster than everyone else, he is one of the quickest Bruins forwards, at least right up there with Marchand and Spooner if not quicker. Once he develops his game I think he will be a top two line player, Czarnik has all the skills, he just needs to add some muscle and awareness. He had a nice assist on a turnover by CBJ in what an old coach of mine called "the red zone" about a foot inside of the blue line where games are won and lost. Czarnik stole the puck in that area and threw a perfect pass to Beleskey who buried it. Then later in the first period Chara passed the puck to Beleskey, about half way up the ice, then Beleskey passed to Nash who was barreling down the left wing, who then passed it to a streaking Czarnik down the right wing for a one timer goal, pictured above. Czarnik's second career NHL goal was the result of a perfect breakout, and was the winning goal in this game.
Conclusion from Game
Bruins are a far better team than the Blue Jackets and they showed it in this game. It seems like Claude Julien has pretty much figured out what he wants to do with his lines, but who knows. The Bruins young defenseman all had pretty solid games, except for Colin Miller who scored on his own goal. Schaller continues to play well on a solid fourth line centered by Dominic Moore. If The Bruins can somehow get a trade for a solid defenseman like a Shattenkirk they could have a chance at being a solid team and making a run. Tuuka Rask seems like he is going to have a decent year, and put in another solid performance other than the self goal mistake. This game doesn't tell us much as the Bruins should have beaten this team anyways.
