5 Year Boston Marathon Anniversary

This year marks the 5 year anniversary of the Boston Marathon, where a couple douche bags chose to change the lives of every Bostonian. I was tremendously lucky that morning when my best friend Markie called me asking me to join the crew going into the city of Boston to watch a buddy race. I had no desire to go that day and went about that day as I usually would. I was checking an old Twitter account feed and noticed a few weird Tweets about an explosion that had occurred...WHAT?!...was that for real? I immediately called Markie and my call went right to voicemail. It kept on going to voicemail and my text messages were unanswered. This was NOT like Markie. This dude always would answer the phone....including that morning when he called me while he was in the shower. I started freaking out and called around to a few other buddies and his mother to know if anyone had heard from him...no one did.

I called my older brother who is a surgeon and was working around Boston at the time. I pleaded with him to call around all the hospitals find out if he could find Markie...and after a few moments by brother returned my call to tell me that he had located my best friend who was located at Mass General Hospital. Little did I know that he was brought to the hospital by a 'Paddy Wagon' because the city of Boston was out of ambulances because of the magnitude of the tragedy.

I immediately got myself to the city and went directly into the hospital. After a lot of hustling and muscling, I was brought to his room by the police and found his entire family there. I mean his entire family that was able to get into the city at that time.

I stayed in the hospital with Markie for a large portion of the 100 days that he was in the hospital and then in rehab. Since then he has seen countless surgeries and still healing and has significant difficulties in his life...he did after all lose his right leg above the knee, and his entire body is filled with shrapnel of nails and BBs from the cowardly bombs that resonated through the city that day.

The image at the top of this post is the X Ray from after the explosion. If you look closely you will see lots of dots and specks all over the image...those are all the pieces of metal that fill his entire body, not just the lower half where he lost one leg and the other one is close to being un-usable.

I have so much to tell about this amazing man and his road of recovery. With the 5 year anniversary of this horrific and lifechanging event, I realize I need some more time to express my feelings and share what he has gone through since then. I plan on writing a few of these blogs dedicated specifically to the Boston Marathon Bombing and how it effected Marc Fucarile, his family, son, friends, job, and entire life. You will all be amazed and inspired about what you are going to learn about this awesome individual.
