Why I loved my long distance walking in the Italian Umbrian countryside?

Although the two weeks in 2015 involved walking up and down the hilliest terrain of nearly 1,000 feet every day, it is a holiday that I always find myself reminiscing about.

I found out on this walk that I am a bit of a 'mountain goat' who can walk up and up quite easily. This came as a complete surprise given the fact that one of my life's purpose was to avoid mountain walking with a vengeance. Walking with a small group of friends made this walk especially memorable mainly because we rarely saw another walker on the path.

It was a most surreal feeling of freedom felt by all of us.

We were totally in tuned with nature, feeling the freedom never knowing what challenges each day would bring, the scenery changed constantly. But on one specific day we walked amongst lots of rocks, boulders, trees and flowing water and so I decided today that I would do a combined #bouldersunday and #treetuesday @shasta and @melinda010100. Maybe it is a bit of a stretch of creativity, but what the heck?

My first photo shows what I initially saw on this day, a little running creek nestled among boulders and trees, such a pretty scene.

Then we came upon a very natural crossing of the little river junction with a light rope to hold just in case of a slip into the water. Some thoughtful people had made sure no-one would be sliding down the little waterfall.

When this trip was being planned and open to any intrepid walker I felt strongly that Ben and I had to go. We put up our hands, increased our fitness and spent 2 weeks walking amongst the trees, boulders and countryside breathing in the energy and sharing the experiences with good friends. It was so worth it!

Cheers and Blessings
