A Sublime Boulder Sunday At Rocks State Park

My photos today are from my visit this past week to Rocks State Park in Harford County, Maryland. It was chilly and overcast on the day of my visit but, luckily, no rain. ๐Ÿ™‚

Did anyone else notice what looks like an eye on the King and Queen Seat in my first photo? No? Uhhh..nevermind then! There are a lot of rocks and boulders at "Rocks" State Park and there were so many leaves on the ground that it made walking the rocky path a bit difficult.

So, I know you're wondering if I made it out onto the outcrop and that would be a negative. I don't know that I would even try again. I put a little yellow "x" on the rock in the second photo to show how far I went out. Besides learning that I may have an issue with heights, I've also pulled my back too many times in the last couple of weeks (sometimes twice in a day). Over stupid stuff like the slightest twist or just reaching for something off a shelf. This is in addition to my other muscle spasms. To be honest I feel like I am fighting a battle with a deep depression trying to creep in. I'm just going to leave that there as I really don't want to talk about it anymore than I have right now but I will continue my fight pretty much like I have most of my life. Maybe that "eye" in the first photo of my post is there to keep an eye on me..lol. ๐Ÿคจ

I did get pretty close the the edge on the side of the rock formation and I really love the photos I got!

I tried to get some photos of the trees from the spot that I stood at just before the outcrop. Thank goodness for zoom!

Not too impressive as far as Autumn colors! I did see a pretty tree here and there nestled among other trees when I took a short walk on a trail by the King and Queen Seat.

Let's check out some more of the nice boulders that I spied in the area!

My last two photos were taken by the picnic area which is between the parking lot and the King and Queen Seat. No boulders but some pretty trees and scenery.

Beautiful. Do you know the geological origin of the stones? I'm always curious about that side

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

Thanks so much @nikv and for the curation also!! The 190 foot high outcrop is a natural formation. The state purchased the park in 1949 to preserve it. It is made of quartzite and a hard quartz-pebble metaconglomerate and was formed millions of years ago. There is a plaque near the structure that I learned that from. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

I'm reading this and thinking to myself,
"Dang my friend sure knows her geology!"๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿค”
then you go all Abe Lincoln and fess up about reading about the composites on a plaque!๐Ÿ˜€
You do get bonus points for memorizing what you read! @deerjay

Lol..thanks Nina!! My memory is so bad but I made sure to copy down what the plaque read so I could always refer back to it. I wrote about it a time or two already. ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ˜
Btw..I went to Loch Raven yesterday and for the first time I saw a goose with angel wing. I felt so bad for the goose but I was also a little scared cause the geese came right up to me (I was in a secluded area) and you never know how they will react to people. I just backed away quietly and talked softly and came out unscathed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Rocky woodland, reminds me of Malham in the UK. The rocks make some amazing structures, love the autumnal colours on the trees too !COFFEEA

My favorite photo is the eighth one down, especially the way you made the boulders on each side frame the fantastic autumn scenery in the center.

But seriously, you really didn't need to move all those huge, heavy boulders just to get these incredible photos for us!

I spy the eye on the King and Queen Seat too. The positioning of it looks like the head of a humpback whale to me!

Sorry to hear you're having sto deal with some health issues. Sending you positive energies for healing and good health, Dee! @deerjay ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™Œ

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

Thank you so much @ninahaskin!! I'm glad you see the eye too. I love that photo and it is right next to the seventh one. The stone was especially pretty like a slate gray and white with some rounded edges. Could not leave without a photo of that one..lol. ๐Ÿ™‚
Thank you also for your kind words and positive Energies! ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ’ž

They are pretty cool boulders it looks like someone has stacked them on top of each other what a great find ๐Ÿ‘

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

Thank you so much @hangin!! I know and it looks like they could easily topple over. I didn't want to get too close that is for sure! ๐Ÿคจ ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

Yeah good thinking they certainly don't look safe just hanging there like that ๐Ÿ™€

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

The park has some great rocks, Dee. In the first photo the top rock, with what looks like an eye on it, It seems to balance on a skull like head.
Cute edit with your name on the stone. It sure is a peaceful resting spot. ๐Ÿ’ž

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

Thanks so much Jo!! As soon as I saw that stone sticking up like that it reminded me of an old gravestone so, naturally, I couldn't help myself..lol. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜

ย  ยท ย 5 years agoย

You have the best boulders @deerjay!! :-) What a awesome
place to be near! Is that a good resting boulder spot? lol
Ouch on that back stuff, sure hope you feel better soon!
I know the just lifting something and zing! Not sure I'd walk out
on the very edge there, I like your zoom! So pretty with the
autumn colors around, almost ready for their winter's nap.

Thanks so much @shasta!! Lol..that little boulder really stuck out to me and was just calling my name..hee hee. ๐Ÿ˜‰
