Boulder Sunday--Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, AZ

#BoulderSunday created by @shasta

Years ago during spring break my kids and I went to Arizona looking for warm weather and hoping to leave the Wisconsin winter behind. One of the memorable things we did while we were there was go rock hopping in Pine Creek in Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, near Payson, AZ.

There was a lot of scrambling involved and I must admit to a time or two when one of the kids would have to come back and offer me a hand to hop from one boulder to the next. There were also places where the rocks were wet and slippery!

image

And plenty of really big boulders.

image

There were waterfalls and caves all along the way.

I was pretty proud of myself for climbing and jumping from boulder to boulder! It is one of those accomplishments that I can look back at and say, 'I did that'!

Thanks so very much!

Great photos and great memories I'm sure. Love the water color in that first shot.

There are so many amazing places in AZ, aren't there?

The first photo is too beautiful. It makes me so happy that you and the guys enjoyed it so much and were close to nature. You are the one that appears in the last photo?

That's me, still walking and climbing!

And creating special memories with the guys. You look great in that photo😊

Younger and healthier!

It is perfect that you have taken advantage of that health and youth to travel to beautiful places

It has been a great life! I have absolutely no regrets!

That is about reaching your age and not regret anything. And know that you have enjoyed life so much

Every minute! (almost) 😉

Again I see such wonderful natural beauty over the priceless gift of God. My really really enjoy the natural landscape that is so amazing. I always want to be there
Thanks for this @melinda010100

You would love touring the southwestern part of the United States. There is so much to see there.

What a cool trip! My kids would both love to go on a family trip like that.

This was totally impromptu! We stopped at the park and went into the Welcome Center, and one of the women working behind the desk suggested that we go on a hike was long as we were there. When she mentioned Rock Hopping to my kids they were in!

you should be proud of yourself sounds pretty tricky in places but you did it and got these great shots to share with us

Looking back, I think my MS was causing balance issues even then, but I wasn't diagnosed until years later when I started falling down frequently! It is a great memory to have with my kids!

Yes as we get older I think memories become more special for us :)

They do indeed!

That looks like a strenuous activity. I am already tired, looking at the photos. :-)

Haha! Certainly not something I could do today!

Wow what a place to be at

Thanks! It was memorable for all of us!

looks too good to not be a day to remember for anyone, nature is beautiful

What a awesome place and great memories!
Those are sure some huge boulders, I see a
hand reflection in the third photo :-)
Was the water nice for swimming? Sure looks
like it is! Thank you so much ❤ @melinda010100
for showing these beautiful boulders!

Thanks @shasta! I'm glad you like the pictures. I never noticed that reflection! It was winter time/jacket weather when we were there. But I don't think they allow swimming or even wading because of the overuse/ congestion that it would cause. This relatively cool, shady spot gets lots of use on a hot Arizona day

That park has so many unique looks to it Melinda. I love how you really captured the essence of the day. I would have loved to see the beauty of that park... ahh, I did! Your photos are perfect.

That's so sweet of you to say! I'd love to go back there with a real camera.

Nice walk. Your photos are very beautiful.
In such places you feel the beauty of nature.
Fresh air and picturesque landscapes, waterfalls
and rocky rocks. You are brave.

I wouldn't risk climbing those boulders.
I Afraid of heights :-)

Thanks so much!

Tonto, eh? I wonder how it got that name. It may have involved a "Hold my beer" and a "Hey y'all, watch this!"

Nice photos of the area. There are some fascinating textures in the stone there.

I found this... "There is the possibility that the name Tonto is itself a corruption as a manuscript dated 1820 gives their name as Tantos Apache". So it sounds like it was an attempt to name the park after the tribe that originally lived there.

These are gorgeous shots Melinda..................what a spectacular place!!!

Thanks, my dear friend! @lenasveganliving. It was quite an adventure for all of us!

I can only imagine 🌸💖🌸

Howdy Melinda! wow, this are great shots! The scenery is gorgeous and what a relief that had to have been from the cold of Wisconsin! Super cool post.

My kids were and still are my favorite traveling partners! We had lots of good times together. Even when they got busy with their own lives and I was doing my traveling without them, I always wished they were with me!

that's so wonderful Melinda, not everyone has that special connection to their kids so it's truly a blessing!

Thanks... they are pretty great! Off to bed. I'm not feeling the best and the furnace guys will be here bright and early with my new furnace!

yay for the new furnace! yes, get a good nights sleep Melinda, thanks for the fun conversations today!

I keep seeing this challenge. Have to scroll through my folders to see what can I post next time. Nice photos, well done!

Oh do join in! Be on the lookout for boulders!

I can see myself spending some time over there. It's a nice place.
