Calling Steemit Artists and Graphic Designers - $50 SBD Bounty for a "Welcome to Steemit" Banner

in bounty •  8 years ago  (edited)

We are looking for submissions for the banner to go on top of the Welcome to Steemit landing page!

When @bitcoiner and I created the page, our first intention was to connect new users with the information that they needed to get started and be successful on Steemit. Now that the information is there, it is time to start making it look pretty!

This will be the first thing new users see after they signup for a new account, so it needs to be professional and appeal to all audiences.

It is important that the banner is something that can adjust to fit any sized screen. There are two formats that we are accepting:

  • Format 1: An image that can be "tiled".
  • Format 2: An image that can easily be stretched/resized.

The banner image will have the following text overlaid on top of the image:

  • Welcome to Steemit!
  • Come for the rewards, stay for the community.

The banner image that is submitted should not have the text as part of the image. If you want to submit two images - one with the text and one without (to show what it would look like once the text is there), that is fine - but make sure there is at least one without the text.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions can be made as a separate post, or as a comment/reply to this post.
  • If you create a new post for your entry, please reply to this post with a link to your submission.
  • All submissions must be made by 12:00 noon CST on 12/19/2016.

Bounty Terms:

  • After this entry period closes, we will create a follow-up post with all the images to collect community input.
  • @bitcoiner and I will review the images with Steemit, and pick one to be used on the "Welcome to Steemit" page as the 'winner'.
  • In the event that none of the images are accepted for the site, @bitcoiner and I will still pick one winner to receive the award.
  • The winner will be awarded $50 SBD.
  • The top 3 runner-ups will each receive $5 SBD.

[Edit] The bounty has been updated to $50 - thanks to an extra $20 from @officialfuzzy!!

Wow, that's awesome!

Hey guys! I made a little something for you today, let me know what you like and don't like about it!

Very cool! Thanks for the submission :)

No problem, @timcliff!
Btw, any photo fragments that I used are free domain from Pixabay. :)
Are we allowed more than one entry?

Cool :)

Yes, submit as many as you want! Each person will only receive at most one bounty award though. I.E. - you can't get first prize and a runner up.

Of course not! haha
Good deal, I will think of more ideas - the more options you have, the better!

Agreed :)

Ill toss in an extra $20 SBD

Awesome!! Thanks so much :)

I very much enjoyed creating that last one, so I had one more attempt. You can find it here.

I hope you like it!

Awesome!! :)

Resteeming.
Also, it would be helpful for anyone to have ideal width and height measurements. I believe the most common width for a website banner is from 960 to 1280 pixels and the height depends on font and overlays (like how your profile pic might impede on your twitter header). Standard might be 300 pixels but can be adjusted to be a thicker or thinner banner.

Thanks @merej99!

We are going to try and make whatever we get as far as sizes to work, but until we start plugging the images in and seeing how they look at different sizes - we don't really know for sure.

The current "Welcome to the Blockchain" banner (different and unrelated to what we are working on) is 504x183. This is one that can be "tiled" though, so it doesn't matter as much.

@bitcoiner was also saying that 840px wide that still looks good when resized down to 320px is a good target to aim for as far as format 2. The height in this shouldn't matter too much, as long as it is not excessively tall.

People who work in digital artistry usually work in a huge dimension (of pixels) and scale it down at the end. So, whatever we get is really... just being lazy. Choose a size. Or choose some sizes.

You have developed a web page, and it only looks good at certain sizes-ranges. So, you should know these and be able to give a guestimate of what you will be wanting.

And, the aspect ratio is really what the designer needs. If you want a square, that is whole lots different then long narrow top bar pictuer

I'm sorry, but we do not have a set size. In general, it should probably be a rectangle (wider than it is tall).

@bitcoiner and I do not work for Steemit, and we did not develop the site. We are just two people from the community that are trying to help contribute and make it better.

There are quite a few different sizes that should work. We plan to try out whatever people send us.

Hello, here is my post . I hope I'm not too late... Best regards!

Just made it :) Three hours to spare, hehe.

Final entry.

Cool!! Thanks for the submission :)

I only just noticed the Welcome Page. That is brilliant:)

Sweet, thanks! Yeah, this is now the first thing that new users see after they create an account :)

BTW, not sure if you noticed - but several of your posts are listed at the bottom of the page!

Yes cool thanks. I have also collated a lot of posts and updated some of them here: https://www.steemithelp.net - it is easier to update that way. I have also divided my version of the FAQ into smaller portions (some of which are new).

It also has the new Quick Start Guide too - I love your one page welcome summary I might use some of that too if it's OK?

We will probably be adding more of your posts in the next pull request :) I am going to look into adding a link to www.steemithelp.net too.

Yes, feel free to use any of the content from the existing page.

Cool thanks. Are you on the Busy alpha?

No. I think it is awesome and has huge potential to add value to the platform, but I am waiting to see once it is launched what the 'security folks' in the community say about how they are handling the private keys.

OK no problem. I think they would probably give you an invite if you wanted.

Appreciate it :) I'm going to hold off for now though.

@timcliff resteemed!
I hope you find a great one!

@oaldamster , @vegascomic something for the both of you? :D

Thanks, me too :)

I will have a go at this. Can the banner be animated? Or must it be a png?

Animated would be really cool, but I can't guarantee that we will be able to get it to work, or that Steemit would accept it. PNG would be a safer choice.

Okay, thanks. I will have a crack at it tomorrow.

Ok, cool :)

good idea!

Thanks :)

RESTEEMED!

Thanks :)

Excellent! I'll definitely submit a banner design for this... Thanks for opening it up!

Cool! I look forward to seeing your design :)

Whoa been seeing a lot of posts from you lately. Great job! Seems like you been really busy! I don't know how you do it but thanks for the work on the welcome page.

Thanks! I have very little life other than work, sleep, my spouse, and Steemit, lol :)

@bitcoiner did a ton of the work on the welcome page too :)

Oh yes of course. Thank you @bitcoiner

Is there a separate git repo I can clone to contribute to the page? Or at this point in time are you just updating the welcome page via the steemit repository?

We've just been doing PR's on the steemit.com repo's develop branch. A separate branch can be created if it would be better though.

Be advised that develop will become master soon. But ultimately that doesn't matter - just fork the repo and send us in a PR from yours. :)
