An eventful DUMBO bowling day: All championships change hands

We have a number of awards at our bowling league that we lovingly refer to as DUMBO. That stands for DaNang Underground Mental Bowling Organization.... I think... Nobody is really sure about that.

We have championships for men and women, a tag-team championship, as well as the "gobbler" which is an award given to anyone that gets a turkey (3 strikes in a row.)

All of these award are cheap medals or WWE replica championship belts that we bought online. They aren't worth anything but it gives us a chance to act like little kids and have our trophies of sorts. Whatever, we enjoy it.

This past week at DUMBO we had really low attendance because several of our members were out of the country for the holidays and others were doing visa runs which are becoming a real thorn in the side of many people that live here.

With only 14 people it was one of our lowest attended events in a while. Normally we expect around 20 or more. We still have fun but it's always a lot more fun if we have more people there.

Both the men and women's championships changed hands and I finally, after around 6 weeks of holding it, lost "the gobbler" to someone who FINALLY bowled 3 strikes in a row. I was happy to have someone else hold that thing for a while because it is an award that used to change hands several times a day and for it to be in my cabinet for nearly 2 months is a rarity.

Personally, I was extremely disappointed with my performance when I was bowling in singles competition and I didn't even break 100 points on either game. This is really bad and quite rare for me but I just couldn't pull it together and hardly picked up any spares or strikes. Some days you are on fire and other days you just cant seem to make anything work.

The above image is from the tag-team competition. My score is on the bottom there and both me and my partner bowled pretty terribly in singles so it was extra unusual that we would really tear it up as a team. It doesn't make any sense but we were unstoppable as a team.

We ended up getting 4 strikes in a row and ended up with one of the highest tag-team scores that anyone in DUMBO has ever gotten. If we had done a little bit better in frames 3 and 5 we almost certainly would have had the highest score ever recorded in our league's near 3 year history. It's kind of crazy that doing poorly on your own doesn't necessarily mean you are going to repeat that same performance in doubles. In singles I only picked up ONE spare conversion. In doubles, I picked up all of them. How does that work? I was using the same ball. I suppose it could have to do with the oil on the lanes but it may have just been a mental thing as well. I was just in the zone and never left it.

We were crowned the new tag-team champions and hopefully we will be able to defend them next week. This doesn't happen very often though because unlike the men and women's championships, as a tag-team you are required to bowl against everyone, not just one selected person.

It was fun and we all went and got drunk afterwards.... as is tradition!
