Box is collaborating with IBM and Amazon to provide customers the choice of storing their data in specific regions.
The technology is called Box Zones and is targeted at companies that face regulatory restrictions on where they store data.
IBM and Amazon will provide the storage infrastructure while Box will be the content management solution that users interact with. Amazon will provide the storage service through Amazon S3 while IBM will use IBM Cloud Object Storage.
Initially customers can choose to store their data in Germany, Ireland, Singapore or Japan. With the adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR) by the European Parliament, more European businesses will look to such solutions.
CEO Aaron Levie indicated that Box will offer this feature in more regions and may even collaborate with other partners in the future. The launch signals that Box is actively collaborating with third party cloud storage providers rather than relying only on their own data centers.
