Mexican Superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has unfortunately failed a random drug test as he returned sample containing a banned substance that goes by the name of Clenbuterol ahead of his rematch with middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

Golden Boy have blamed contaminated meat in Mexico and have mentioned that Canelo will now move his training camp to the United States so further contamination can be avoided. Clenbuterol is commonly known to be used as a decongestant by patients who suffer from asthma, however it is banned by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency).

Rumours from credible sources across the boxing world are claiming that the rematch will still be taking place on the 5th of May in Las Vegas, Canelo has voluntarily pledged to submit further tests to prove his innocence and ensure that he has not intentionally taken performance enhancing drugs to gain advantage ahead of the rematch with Gennady Golovkin.

Daniel Eichner, the Director of SMRTL, a WADA-accredited lab that conducted the tests stated in his letter today, "These values are all within the range of what is expected from meat contamination."

Below is what Canelo himself had to say regarding this news,

"I am an athlete who respects the sport and this surprises me and bothers me because it had never happened to me," said the 27-year-old.

"I will submit to all the tests that require me to clarify this embarrassing situation and I trust that at the end the truth will prevail."
