BEACHTHE CLASSIC PUNCHES OF BOXING.jpg

The punches of boxing are inside the so called Technique of boxing, we have the need to apply a name to each punch to differentiate between them, as the trajectories and the way of execution of each one of them are clearly different. This need for a specific denomination is given by the repetition during the technical actions of very similar strikes, which without being exactly the same meet certain standards in their execution or in their trajectory that makes us identify them clearly with a name for each one of them.

For his trajectory:

STRAIGHT: (Direct, jab) Both are equal in their trajectory and execution. They only differ in their application and final strength.

CURVES: - Lateral (Crochet)

Vertical Ascending (Uppercut or hook)

(Hook)

MIXED: -Long side impact with rotating cuff (Swing)

CONCRETE HITS

Therefore in our terminology of boxing we use some concrete hits that being very similar some of them differ for their trajectory, for their execution or for their application, they are:

JAB: it is used to: maintain the distance, to initiate a combination, as a trick hit for another subsequent action, to "worry" the rival... It's definitely a direct little "accented". Less impact force and usually left in left foot fighters of right or orthodox guard.

DIRECT: left-handed (always the other way round in left-handed) is a more forceful blow than the Jab, the Fighter who executes it must be well supported on the ground and with greater impulse from the hip, shoulder and body rotation.
It is used to stop the opponent who "enters", to destabilize him, bumper hard. Many coaches, boxers and amateurs confuse both. However, in English they differentiate perfectly (those who really know) a jab from a straigth-left.

CROCHET: This is a lateral strike with a trajectory parallel to the ground that is directed at the opponent's face.

UPPERCUT or HOOK: it is a blow that goes from the bottom up looking for the opponent's chin.

HOOK or "stab punch" as the Cubans say. It can be considered as a blow that being similar in its execution to uppercut that has its application to the chin, is a variant of it applied to the body. It can also be applied to the chin with an oblique upward trajectory.

SWING: This is a long crochet in which the cuff is turned to impact the knuckle area.

The right-handed boxers are placed with the left foot and glove closest to their opponent. Those who do it with the right foot are left-handed or inverted guard. Certain boxers dominate both forms.
