History of Boxing recaps Edwin Valero's fight against Antonio DeMarco. It was a tough fight.

This fight is remembered not only for its sheer brutality and emotional intensity but also for the massive cut on Edwin Valero's forehead, from which blood flowed continuously. Despite this, he fought with the ferocity of a raging bull, launching attack after attack on DeMarco. After this bout, the boxer completely lost his sanity and tragically took his own life.

Even with over 110 total bouts under his belt, Valero still appeared remarkably raw. His whirlwind style was aggressive and violent, showing little regard for the safety of himself or his opponents. He admitted that he feared no one and enjoyed hitting men because it made him feel free.

By defeating Antonio Pitalua, Edwin Valero finally became the new WBC world champion.

Edwin Valero's fame and his spectacular fights quickly spread. He was increasingly invited to various shows and events. Bob Arum himself kept hinting to the press about a sensational event in the boxing world—a fight against Manny Pacquiao. Valero also greatly desired this match.

However, for this mega-fight to happen, he needed to pass two defenses.

His first defense was against Hector Velazquez, whom he dominated for an easy win.

A defense was scheduled against Humberto Soto on the Cotto vs. Pacquiao undercard, but he was denied a visa after being charged with a DUI for driving into a tree and carrying an illegal firearm in Texas. Finally, he faced Antonio DeMarco.
