How Mayweather vs McGregor can actually be GOOD for boxing

Mayweather and McGregor have many notable accomplishments in the combat sports they participate in however when either of them are to be competing in a fight with a different set of rules, you can bet your house who the winner will be. Most boxing fans know this and are disappointed for the best boxer of our generation to be fighting someone who hasn't stepped inside the squared circle. Despite that, there are a few things about this event that can make boxing more exciting for everyone again.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao generated a lot of money and in return, boxing lost an incredible amount of fans they were expected to gain and the damage to the sport resulted in the chance of roof breaking numbers happening again being very unlikely. This fight actually presents a very interesting scenario to the public as most people are curious to find out how a really good MMA fighter would do against a boxer whereas people familiar with both sports already know what to expect. Yet, both parties will most likely watch it? From my analysis, it's the fact that 2 households names are coming together for a competitive event and everyone wants to be part of the experience. You know it will be trending on social media (as if it already isn't). Depending on the outcome of the event, people may be more willing to watch boxing on pay per view if they feel they will receive a similar experience.

The Undercard

This is one of the major reasons for this event being good for boxing. If the undercard is filled with notable boxers or boxers that deserve the exposure, the audience could be in for a really good experience of competitive fights. When Mayweather was in the UK taking pictures with fans, Anthony Joshua asked if he could be on the undercard and I'm very sure other boxers would want the same too. Of course it's all in the hands of Floyd and Al Haymon how the undercard can turn out to be and hopefully it won't be anything like the MayPac undercard.

There are obvious reasons why it isn't good for boxing and with many boxers being accused in the past of "cherry-picking" their opponents, this event can easily transcend that due to the experience it offers. Also, most boxers are facing their competition this year with upcoming fights such as Broner vs Garcia and GGG vs Canelo. If the Mayweather McGregor undercard can offer competitive fights of that magnitude, it's a win win situation for everyone...Except the losers.
