SPOILER ALERT "Canelo Alvarez vs GGG" Post Fight Thoughts (Original Blog)

Wow...what a fight. I knew this fight would deliver nothing less than elite level competitive boxing.

Since it is now known that a Draw was scored, I am actually happy there was no definitive winner because the fight was so good and we get to see an immediate rematch.

My prediction was only a bit off. They did go the full distance of all 12 rounds like I thought they would. No knockdowns were scored. And I felt GGG was consistently putting pressure and walking down Canelo Alvarez. I would have gave the win to GGG scoring it 7 rounds to 5, that is how close I had it.

Canelo fought in flurries, landed some solid shots and was utilizing his combinations and counters, but I felt he was too much on the backfoot.

I felt like he took Floyd Mayweather's gameplan and used it versus GGG, since Canelo's only official loss is to Mayweather.

I was expecting Canelo to come forward more, but there was one round where Canelo stood on the ropes and man oh man, that round was so exciting when they were engaging with each other, bobbing and weaving and swinging with bad intentions.

Both men were fading towards the end, Canelo focused body shots on the older GGG, but because Canelo is new to the true Middleweight division and was the lighter man gaining weight to come up to this division, he looked more tired in the later rounds, and in the final three rounds, Canelo rallied his last reserves to attempt securing a victory.

GGG took Canelo's best shots, even flush uppercuts, and still came forward and was able to nullify Canelo's momentum with effective Jabs, plus some vengeful combos and uppercuts too.
Canelo's movement early on to the middle of the fight was effective as well, causing GGG to miss shots, but it hurt Canelo on the scorecards in the later middle rounds when Canelo should have planted his feet a bit more and display more effective clear offense.

These are my post-fight thoughts, and even though it was a draw, I couldn't have been happier because I was hoping for a rematch and now a rematch HAS TO HAPPEN. I think they should secure another legitimized deal for the rematch hopefully within an immediate 4-6 months. GGG is not getting any younger and Canelo will definitely take this learning curve and apply more pressure, but Canelo will also be there more to be hit by GGG if he chooses to engage more with GGG. I know they both want that KNOCKOUT WIN to exclude the judges' scorecards...It is exciting to think about it!
