Swan Lake On Boxing Day

One of the things I love the most about this season we're in, in this part of the world, is that you are kind of forced to take some time off the regular things you do. It may be work, a hobby, or even an addiction, the way things shut down for the few days limits your access to every day activities. It's to a lesser extent online, since the Internet is global and not everyone subscribes to this season, but still there is a vast reduction in online traffic - maybe with the exception of Netflix :)

I spent some time walking in nature on Boxing Day (The day after Christmas) with members of my family. It was such a refreshing time. Yes, of course, I had my camera on me and I took many photos of them for a change.

We were walking along this lake when the previously peaceful looking swan decided to make some kind of move. I was determined to catch it with it's wings out so I went from camera-off and facing the wrong direction to jumping across the footpath and aiming at the bird to take the shot. It all took less than two seconds! I've had a lot of practice in the quick camera draw and shoot, but even I wasn't fast enough to catch the swan in the most majestic moment. I missed it by about a quarter of a second while the camera attempted to focus. I wish I had been in manual mode and zone focused. I would have caught it. Oh well.

Anyhow, what really matters is that I was there in the first place. Not only to capture this bird, but with my family - enjoying the very nice, peaceful walk in such a beautiful place. This is one of the things I live for. Also, this is what I feel like after a little time off. I'm energised, my wings are out and I'm about to take off!

Perfection will only arrive to those who are not looking for it. So chill, the picture is amazing and so are your skills. Enjoy family time and fly out towards whatever hearts dreams. Hugs

Thank you. I hope you're having a blast and still evading winter :)

Even if you missed the perfect shot within a split second, I think this is an awesome shot. Love the high contrast!

Thank you Eve. I'm sure you've had this scenario many times yourself. :)

Still a very majestic moment! Beautiful capture.

Thank you :)

What a moment! For me it's a perfect shot. It's giving me the feeling to see the real colored one.
Best of luck to your take off.
