Boxwood carving is one of the traditional folk carving arts in Zhejiang Province. The carving materials are made of boxwood, which are made from the natural woods of the Boxwood with delicate texture and dignified colors.
The first "Li Tiegui" from Yuan Dynasty to Zhengnian was preserved in Beijing's National Palace Museum. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the boxwood carving has formed an independent artisanal style, and is loved by the people for its vivid styling close to society and the portrayal of human form and spirit.
The contents of the theme most of the characters in Chinese folk myths and legends, such as the Eight Immortals, birthday, Guan Gong, Maitreya Buddha, Guanyin and so on.
