BPJS Employment and the Embassy of Singapore Cooperate Protect Indonesian Workers

Since August 1, 2017, in accordance with Regulation of the Minister of Manpower No. 07 of 2017, BPJS Employment has a new task as the organizer of protection program for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) which has been launched in Tulungagung District, East Java.

This launch marks an increasingly widespread coverage of workers who are covered by labor social security protection, outside of Wage Workers (PU) or Formal Workers and Non-Wage Workers (BPU) or informal workers who previously are required to be protected.

To optimize the implementation of these responsibilities, BPJS Employment continues to coordinate with various countries placement PMI. One of them is to collaborate with the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Synergy of Functions of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore and BPJS Employment for the Protection of Social Security of Employment for Migrant Workers in Singapore.

The MoU was signed by the Managing Director of BPJS Employment Agus Susanto and Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore, I Ngurah Swajaya at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, at 7 Chatsworth Road, Singapore (9/12/2017).

Agus said the cooperation aims to synergize the authority of the parties in order to optimize the protection and service of the Social Security Employment Program. The synergy is also made in the integration of PMI database in KBRI with data owned by BPJS Employment and utilization of Smart Embassy system owned by Indonesian Embassy in Singapore.

In the 50th anniversary of Indonesia-Singapore diplomatic relations, Agus also took time to meet friendly with the PMI in Fort Canning, Singapore, as well as providing education about the Social Security Employment Protection program by BPJS Employment.

Based on data from the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI), Singapore is the 4th positioned country if sorted by the number of PMI working abroad after Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Until now PMI listed as participant BPJS Employment is as many as 78,789 people who mostly follow two programs of Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Guarantee (JKm).

However, in accordance with the applicable Minister of Manpower, PMI may complete its protection by registering to participate in the Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT) through a service office within the embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. JHT itself is a protection program in the form of savings that can be enjoyed when entering old age or stop working.

"We hope all PMI follow 3 programs in full, including JHT so they are also ready to face the old days later", said Agus. To facilitate PMIs already placed in their respective countries of enrollment, BPJS Employment has also provided an online registration channel at the https://tki.bpjsketenagakerjaan.go.id address for which payment is in cooperation with Bank BNI and CIMB Niaga, for facilitate registration in a concise, easy, and fast way.

"Hopefully the synergy with the embassy for PMI's protection can work productively and optimally which makes Singapore a barometer for other countries for PMI protection", Agus said.
