Chances are you´ve heard about the Left side vs Right side debate, and how the former is attribuited with the things that regard logical thinking and maths, while the later is about creativity and art, however, as it happens with several theories in the topic the brain, this has been sistematically upgraded.
One of the most popular theories about the way the brain thinks right now, is similar though a little more complex, now they don´t talk of left or right hemispheres, but four zones in total. This model of the brain was proposed by William "Ned" Herrmann, and it´s called the "Brain dominance model".
In this theory, Herrmann defines that each one of the four regions of the brain develops a specific array of areas regarding diferrent ways of thinking, these four areas are:
A. Analytical thinking
Key words : Auditive, logical, factual, critical, technical and quantitative.
B. Sequential thinking
Key words : safekeeping, structured, organized, complexity or detailed, planned.
C. Interpersonal thinking
Key words : Kinesthetic, emotional, spiritual, sensory, feeling.
D. Imaginative thinking
Key words : Visual, holistic, intuitive, innovative, and conceptual.
Of course, in every person there are zones with more prominence than others, and thats when we get the differences in thinking, for example, a person with a highly developed "Analytical thinking" but a under developed "Sequential thinking" might be a genious when it comes to solving math, or logical problems, but will also be desorganized, and a have a hard time structuring ideas in an easy-to-follow-by-others way.
One of the curiosities, or applications of this model is a test desinged by Herrmann, called "The Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument" or HBDI, which claims to evaluate the way the brain of the person taking the test works, and gives in result, how much each zone is develpe, and can be taken in the official herrmannsolutions website.
Futher analysis grants the Idea that certain persons are better suited for a career acording their results in the HBDI, so it´s at the very least, a good career advise, maybe it can give you a clue on your dream or custom made job.
