Interviews slowly rolling in - week 5 update

in braindump •  6 years ago

So I've been unemployed for nearly 6 weeks now and finally some interviews are rolling in. I've attended one which wasn't to be, had a Skype interview for a contract which also wasn't to be and am waiting feedback for one other. I have one scheduled for next week and have been put forward for 3 other positions.

The interview next week should be interesting as it's a technical role - something I've not done for quite some time. I've wanted to re-tech for a while and although will be a giant step back on the career front gathered this may be the opportunity to do so. At the other end of the scale has been contract/consulting jobs which although financially lucrative will take me away from home and the family; I've worked away now for much of the past 6 years - much of my elder daughters life. I think I'm edging towards the quiet family life.

I thought it would all be very stressful but I'm actually enjoying interviews when they come in as it makes me face one of my weaknesses. It's also quite exciting to not be stuck in old ways and review where I am and what I'm doing vs what it is I'd rather be doing. How many of us get or take a second chance? I think many stick with the status quo...but maybe I'm wrong.

I've no idea where I'm going with this really but there we go! It's good to have a bit of a brain dump sometimes :)

Hope you get something soon, I was in the same state (5 weeks out), but have been offered a contract today.

Congrats :)

The contract market seems a challenge to get into and isn't so hot around here at the moment. London seems OK but I really want to avoid that if possible as it's a pain to get to - the more I'm off the more I prefer the simple life with the family.

I've an interview on Wednesday which will back-track me 20 years in my career but is lovely and local. The prospect of being in a techie role again is quite exciting. I've another to arrange in Cambridge which is 100 miles away but doable. More managerial but less hands on.

Good luck, I nailed a contract last week but it doesn't start until September, more weeks to muck about here :)
