Have you been to Cagayan de Oro Philippines?

In one of my visit in the area, my brother invite me to experience the local delicacy in Cogon Market. They call it Sikwate which is a local language for Hot Choco and Puto Maya which is a brown rice cooked in coconut milk (if my taste bud and my experience is cooking is correct). Other call Puto Maya "Tibukhay".

It was a very nice experince, eating on a local market with the locals ordering the same food. Most of the buyer are Market goer. The hot choco are really hot and can wake you up in a sleepy morning! It is made of cacao with evaporated milk. It is served half the cup for only Php 10.00. The Puto Maya is not that sweet so they will give you sugar if you prefer to add. It is sticky and heavy in your stomach perfect to give you energy in the morning. It is served in a saucer and has a tag Php 10.00 per served. Since it is not sweet, it is a perfect match for the Sikwate! Very nice combination and perfect for the morning!

The second time I visit the area I got lost. Thanks to my brother that I phoned he remember the area. If you are entering the Cogon Market from the North of from Yacapin St., just go straight to the center where you can find electric appliance and gadget store. On the center, there is an access to the wet Market. There it is, the Nanol's Cafeteria. It is an open store within the Market and you will hear a women inviting passer by with their Sikwate and Puto Maya. You will hear her say....

"Sikwate, Puto Maya?"
