A cargo ship that collided with the USS Fitzgerald on Saturday is reportedly responsible for the death of seven sailors. The breach happened under the water line and had to be contained as fast as possible. Unfortunately, there were sailors in the sleeping quarters that was breached.

The cargo ship which was almost three times the size of the Fitzgerald, turned away from the destroyer and sailed for seven miles before turning course and backtracking to help the occupants of the destroyer. Officials believe this is why the incident was only reported 50 minutes after happening. The cargo ship was supposedly on "autopilot" at the time of the collision.
