A coup is currently underway in Turkey, the army has reportedly been seen de-arming policeman. Erdogan is away on holiday, what a day to stage a coup!
The army wants to restore democracy and freedom to the country, with a population of almost 75 million. YouTube, Facebook and Twitter are all down, is this a chance for Steemit to make it big?
We need some inside sources as to what is going on, so Turkish people please take to Steemit and let us know what you think is going on!
As a blogger from Turkey I can say that we are trapped between two undemocratic power. Goverment thinks democracy is only the word of majority and doesnt respect minorities. But the coup is also from islamic origin and that would be worser. In Turkey what ever hapens we are against any kind of military goverment and work for democratic elections.

This is big. The world is going nuts. I can't even predict where things are headed.
Who is going to capitalize on the global destabilization and rush forth with a carefully laid out plan to rescue us from ourselves, and what are we going to have to give up in the process? insane laugher

Although it seems as if it's chaos, what most people don't know is that chaos is just a higher form of order. This should be a good step for Turkey...

Do you think so? I don't know enough. Coups are not always good. I thought Turkey was Democratic country (not always good either). If for example the people directing the coup want to declare Sharia law then that'd be another case where a coup is bad. I don't know enough about Turkey to know whether this is good or bad. Anyone want to clarify?

Yes I'm no expert in the Turkish political system but do know a bit about its history. The Erdogan government gained power democratically but ever since he has tightened government power. At war with the Kurds while Erdogan's immediate family benefitted from ISIS oil trade. Also, it's ironic he is using FaceTime to deliver his address but clamped down on journalists and social media. I think it's a wake up call that's all. All the mainstream media are trying to do is scare people all the time, chaos is a higher form of order so don't let them scare you with these kind of events, if anything they are a warning that something needs to be done. Look at the downing of the Russian Jet over Syria by Turkey, it prompted fears of all-out war but later Turkey apologized. Maybe from this chaos, we might see a stronger and better Turkey emerge.
