On June 18, a man in his 20s was attacked by a bear in Kami Town, Miyagi Prefecture, injuring his face. He is said to be in stable condition.

According to the police, at around 5:40 a.m. on June 18, a man in his 20s from Osaki City was observing wild birds alone in a mountain forest in Kami Town when he encountered and was attacked by an approximately 1 meter-long bear.

The man was scratched by the bear and was taken to a hospital in Osaki City with injuries to his face, but he was able to speak and was pronounced alive.

The bear has fled the scene, and police are strengthening their vigilance in the area.
