Stephen K. Bannon, the troubled boss strategist who helped President Trump win the 2016 race by grasping their mutual patriot driving forces, withdrew the White House on Friday after a turbulent residency molding the searing populism of the president's initial seven months in office.
Mr. Bannon's leave, the most recent in a string of prominent West Wing shake-ups, came as Mr. Trump is under flame for saying that "the two sides" were to be faulted for a week ago's destructive viciousness in Charlottesville, Va. Commentators blamed the president for diverting Mr. Bannon when he compared racial oppressors and neo-Nazis with the left-wing nonconformists who restricted them.
"White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have commonly concurred today would be Steve's last day," Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House squeeze secretary, said in an announcement. "We are appreciative for his administration and wish him the best."
Mr. Bannon's outsized impact on the president, caught in a February front of Time magazine with the feature "The Great Manipulator," was reflected in the reaction to his flight.
