WORCESTER, UK, 28th APRIL 2016
I filmed Nigel Farage MEP, the former leader of the UK Independence Party, at Worcestershire County Cricket Club 57 days before the 'Brexit' referendum. Nigel's words here were some of the most provocative he could muster - labeling former Prime Minister David Cameron as "an utterly dissembling, dishonest Prime Minister.."
He kept the pressure on the PM during the course of what was a gruelling and acrimonious EU referendum debate. He joked that David and Samantha Cameron "stick pins in effigies of me every night before they go to bed". Cameron had been forced to call the referendum after surprisingly winning the 2015 General Election with a majority in the House of Commons. His hand had been forced by UKIP in 2013 and 2014 to pledge such a vote. The Conservatives were thus held to their manifesto pledge of a full 'in - out' referendum. The rest is history.
The Leave side won the vote, held on 23rd June 2016. To celebrate the first anniversary of that win, I am uploading my footage to celebrate the UK's Independence Day.
Farage here was in his element - arguably the most effective public speaker in British politics this century
