No 'warm smell of colitas' in Estoril yesterday, but shocked to see what I thought were two people standing on a high-storey ledge of the Hotel Inglaterra.
Relieved to see it was just an art installation, it occurred to me that these two figures - one standing, one in pondering seatedness - were a metaphor for that increasingly awkward political cul-de-sac - 'Brexit'.
One's immediate concern is for their safety. These two figures look like they might jump, but are they just enjoying the view? The sun is behind them, bright and hopeful, and all they see is shadows?
"Welcome the the Hotel Inglaterra" where, if we continue to borrow the Hotel California's lyrics, we could add: "You can check-out any time you like. But you can never leave".
Just like the UK's relationship with Europe, maybe?
