Brexit delays spell woes to British economic opportunities

Last Monday, British members of Parliament were denied to vote on the new exit deal that PM Boris Johnson secured from Brussels.

The debate regarding the bill and the apparent extensions for the divorce further compromises Britain's exit from the E.U. And according to polls, Brits are no longer pleased with these delays.

Much of the delay can be attributed to the indecisiveness of the British members of Parliaments. Despite the odds, PM Johnson brought a deal at the 11th hour which grants Britain full independence on trade and regulations. The deal also has provisions that takes Northern Ireland’s situation into account. The provision gives the country sovereignty to chart future arrangements with the E.U.

MPs met on Saturday to vote on delivering Brexit for the British people.

The Brexit opponents were already successful in compelling PM Johnson for another extension, the third since the referendum.

Some analysts concur that the constant lobby for delays thwarts Britain’s economic opportunities. The observation comes as there are certain non-European countries have already expressed their interest to trade more freely with Britain, resulting into numerous “trade-continuity agreements,” across more than 45 countries. One of these agreements is the U.S.-U.K. free-trade deal. Among others, these will come into effect once Britain is out of the E.U.

Statistics have it that the U.S. is Great Britain’s largest export market with its prospects only seen to be improving. Exports from Britain to the U.S. have already grown 33% over the past 4 years. Suffice it to say, Britain is already seen as the single largest investor in the U.S. economy.
