BBC licence fee is a tax on the poor

In the age of Amazon & Netflix, the BBC should go subscription only or die. For years they've argued that the £147 tax is to protect valuable content creation that's somehow a cut-above the rest. Now, as the salaries of its highest earning stars emerge, it is easy to see why they really don't want to scrap it.

James Delingpole sums up the ridiculous BBC Licence Fee.

Yet here we have a situation in which, in order to protect the £2.25million (approx) salary of an irritating millionaire, squads of bullies are paid to hunt down defaulters with such aggression and zeal you’d think they were hunting fugitive serial killers.

Inevitably, it’s the poorest and most ­vulnerable who are hardest hit. They’re the ones who can’t afford it and are less capable of resisting.
