NYC Afternoon Update Warm & Toasty Week ahead

Good late afternoon everyone! Well, yesterday was in interesting afternoon for areas east of NYC and while we weren't sure if it was going to happen or not, our severe weather did go over the areas I said were highest at risk. Hopefully, people got a rude awakening as to why we must respect nature, keep an eye to the sky, and take proper precautions when storms are approaching.

SATELLITE

For the rest of today and into tomorrow morning, we don't have to worry about anything like that, not even by surprise. We'll wrap up the evening in the low 80's, then slowly settle down into a mild and dry night with lows in the mid 60's away from NYC proper, to low 70's in the heat island of NYC itself.

Tomorrow, we begin to dial up the heat, but we remain rather tame humidity-wise. We'll have the slight chance of a scattered afternoon shower or thunderstorm with the warmer airmass heading in. Most of the concentrated energy looks as if it sinks off to our west, pounding parts of PA, but we will see if anything shifts.

With any of these forecasts, whenever I call for isolated or scattered showers and storms, keep an eye to the sky as some of these can pop up right in your neighborhood fairly quickly. Plus, when they're singular cells and in the process of growing/maturing... gusty winds, hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain, can come on suddenly. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 80's to possibly some low 90's here and there.

On Wednesday, we repeat with the upper 80's to low 90's, but also turn up the juice slightly, especially towards the evening as winds turn around towards a more SSW direction. You can also be assured that the radar will light up in the afternoon with scattered storms once again, but all we can do is watch and see what pops up and where they drift.

For your 4th of July, we can claim a Hail-Mary victory with this forecast. It'll be your textbook 4th, with hot and humid conditions, upper 80's to low 90's, and the slight chance of a scattered evening storm.

We keep the scattered thunderstorm prospect in the forecast all the way into Friday, and we also notch up the humidity. I'm not sure if we see any isolate 90's popping Friday, but it'll be warm and humid regardless; highs in the mid to upper 80's.

Your weekend is almost looking like a repeat of this past weekend as of now. Very Warm/Hot and humid on Saturday with a better chance of thunderstorms as a front nears; then we dry out and cool off slightly Sunday, but leftover instability could spark some isolated heavy storms again with hail.

For your long range, I continue to see no prospects into mid July of any major heatwaves (95-100+). However, we'll be having ourselves a textbook July, with very warm to hot and humid conditions, the chance of storms, then brief breaks followed by the heat and humidity returning. Right now we are on a 4/5 hot humid thunderstorm; 2/3 warm and dry day ratio, and it looks as if this pattern holds strong.
MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
