NYC FORECAST HOLDS WATCHFUL EYE GULF CARIBBEAN
Good morning everyone. We have yet another seasonably cool day here in the New York City area before things begin to warm up tomorrow. Our medium to long range is holding strong (aside from Monday), and for those who missed it yesterday, you can check it out by clicking here. Meanwhile, the suspect area in the tropics I've been talking about since the end of Florence, is starting to come alive and needs to be watched very closely.
Briefly, look for variable clouds again today for the area. An ESE wind will go full SE as the day wears on, keeping things cool in the area. Expect mid to upper 60's. Tomorrow, clouds stick around, but warm air is in place for the day. We'll go for 75-80 depending on how much sunshine we get. For your Columbus Day, cool air sneaks back in as the maritime air briefly fights back. We'll have clouds and the slight chance of a shower; highs in the upper 60's to low 70's.
After that, we warm up for a three day stretch and carefully watch the Gulf.
WESTERN ATLANTIC SATELLITE
For the past several weeks, I've been talking about how we need to watch the Caribbean and the entrance into the Gulf of Mexico. This is the time of year where old disturbances or start-ups can spin off something fierce; and brought up into the Gulf by deep reaching fronts this time of season.
While we don't have any official named storms at this time, this area is starting to get active and thunderstorm activity is increasing to the point in which a tropical depression could develop soon. Combine that with our front/ridge that'll give us warm air Tuesday through Thursday, and that area of disturbed weather can get sucked up into the Gulf.
We'll be watching this very closely. Not only for the Gulf Coast, but for any remnants that could get brought up our way; enhancing that front which will pass between Thursday and Friday. If this is the case, we could see some flooding rains and gusty thunderstorm activity our way.
