NYC TOASTY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY

Good morning everyone. It'll be a tad hot out today in New York City today as mid summer has returned for an encore. Meanwhile, your Labor Day holiday weekend continues to have a lot of question marks with various types of troughy weather returning. Also in the long range, the heat might not be over.

For today, a light southwest breeze and searing sun will combine to send us soaring into the mid 90's. High humidity and muggy conditions will be the cherry on top to create uncomfortable conditions for the young, sick, and/or elderly, so use caution when venturing out. Drink plenty of water and limit your activities. Look for an exact repeat for tomorrow, with mid 90's and high heat index's.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Precip alludes us until Thursday with a cold front nearing the region. Most of the energy goes north of us, so we'll only have the slight chance of a thunderstorm, but there's a chance nonetheless. If we do experience any storms, expect the potential for gusty winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. Highs Thursday all hang on the exact timing of our front, but at minimum, expect highs in the upper 80's and humid. If the front is a few hours late, we could go for low 90's in areas again.

With timing of the front wavering back and fourth, cooler air may work it's way in on Friday instead of a gradual cool-down. Also, energy and troughiness lags behind the front, with a combined NNE flow. This will help keep clouds in the region, a slight chance of showers, and highs for now 75-80.

More clouds than sun, the slight chance of a few light showers, and mid 70's hangs around for Saturday; then we slowly modify mid-weekend. The trough continues to be stubborn along the east coast, so even with a slow warm-up, we keep the slight chance of some showers in the forecast. Expect upper 70's to low 80's on Sunday, then clouds and sun with a slight chance of showers Monday; warm and humid, highs in the low to mid 80's.

Again, there will be no washouts and it'll be familiar to what we've had all summer in between the heat; so don't cancel any plans and take it day by day.

In the long range, there is the potential for a brief shot of heat to return mid-week next week before more seasonal temps return for the 2nd week of September. However, we'll be keeping an eye on a tropical wave entering the Gulf area. It could change the outcome of our long range depending on what it does and if a front pulls the remnants up our way. As of now, it's too far out and all speculation. The tropics remain quiet, but this is the time of year we start looking for development along old fronts as well as our Cape Verde sourced storms off of Africa. A quiet summer does not necessarily make a quiet fall.
