Is STEEM just Brownie Points on steroids? The Steemit meritocracy

Dantheman is the benevolent whale of Steemit.com. A few upvotes from the benevolent whale can feed a minnow for months. But most of you here have never heard the story of Dan's first failed attempt at creating a functioning meritocracy which was called "Brownie Points".

The Brownie Points or "Brownies" as they were affectionately referred to by members of the BitShares community were user issued assets created on the BitShares platform. They were issued by Dantheman, and their purpose was to incentivise people to help build the BTS infrastructure. Those who contributed positively received Brownies, and it acted like a bounty program used for completing odd jobs for the community such as creating documentation or providing minor code work.

Now, Steemit has replaced Brownie Points as the merirocracy incentive of choice. So now, if you create a tutorial about BitShares or Steemit, then Dantheman will give you upvotes instead of Brownies, both which can be sold for fish food.

Thanks Dan, for not giving up and for creating a meritocracy that functions much better than your first attempt.

See, success in life is not always about "getting in early".
