Bruce had learned a new skill before departing Hong Kong. Bruce, in addition to being one of the greatest martial artists of all time, was also gifted in a different, maybe more surprising field: cha-cha dancing. Bruce took up the habit a year after he began taking rigorous kung fu instruction, according to reports. At first, cha-cha dancing was only a means for him to impress a female, but he quickly improved. Bruce also discovered that practicing dancing might help him improve his footwork and balance, and he quickly focused his crazed attention on both dancing and kung fu.
He was so talented at dancing that at the age of 18, he won a tournament to become Hong Kong's cha-cha champion. To demonstrate how skilled he was, while Bruce was coming to America with only $100 in his pocket, he supplemented his income by teaching some of the wealthy American passengers to dance.
