Introduction

Rest, then sleep, is essential for the life of all of us: a good percentage of our lives we spend it to sleep, and it will not be a coincidence. Sleep is essential for a worthy survival, during the night the body gets rid of every mental and physical waste, and only when you spend serene nights, you can regenerate. The same can not be said if you sleep badly because a bad sleep can affect both the trend of the day and the well-being of the person.
But what do we need for a good sleep? First of all, a good bed where you can rest comfortably, and this is exactly what I will talk about in this guide, specifically about how to build a bed base.
The bed is one of the "places" in which we spend most of our time in the span of our lives: to sleep, rest, if we do not feel well, to make love, etc. The bed therefore has multiple uses, so it is good that you choose quality, so that it is comfortable and durable. In addition to a soft mattress, a self-respecting bed must have solid foundations.
Doing it is all in all simple, I now illustrate all the steps.

needed

  • Good quality wooden boards
  • Specific junctions or fairly long wood nails
  • Hammer
  • Acrylic / paint colors
  • A plywood table
  • Screws

Choose the type and obtain the material

To begin with you will need to get a good deal of solid wood boards, maybe you could buy it for the occasion, or you could find it in other ways (a carpenter friend who could give you, etc.). Choose carefully the type of wood you will use: it will affect the heaviness, and also the type of paint that you will have to use later. First you have to choose the type of bed you are going to build: double or single? It comes to itself that, if it is the double one, the number of axles will be greater, but above all their length will have to be higher.
Having verified this you can get to work

Assemble the frame

It will be advisable to start with 4 axes and to assemble them together, in order to create a square. On average, a double bed measures 160 cm in width and 190 cm in length, corresponding to two single mattresses approached. In any case, always check previously the measurements of the desired mattress, which could be different from those indicated here.
To fix everything it is good that you use specific junctions for the bed sides. These tools must be procured to form a rigid structure between the various parts of the frame and the sides. The joints must be firmly fixed to all 4 corners of the bed, and it is advisable to check that each joint is well secured.
Sometimes it is difficult to find such tools in local hardware stores. In this case, you can use 8 long wood screws.

Fix the slats

After creating the perimeter of the bed, you can complete it by adding the other wooden boards: they will be used to create the slats. So start by placing them inside your previously created square, and always use the already mentioned junctions or nails, to fix each axis to the outer perimeter. When you have finished fixing all the boards, check their resistance.

Add the base, sand and decorate

Take the measurements and cut out a plywood base in such a way that it fits with the measurements of the platform. Fix it to the frame with screws and place it on the bed support and on the internal slats so that the screws do not protrude from the part of the mattress. As a final step, sanded and then colored the bed with the color that seems most appropriate. The two main types of paints are two: water based and solvent based. The latter are certainly less delicate, and allow an easier drafting. Water-based paints ensure a very rapid drying and a very weak smell.
