People are fine bringing up gun control, mental health, arming teachers, politicians, the NRA. Mention the role bullying plays in the role of school violence (school shootings included) and that's somehow not allowed. Is it because we don't want to think that our kids could be part of the problem?
We have elementary school age kids bringing weapons to school to protect themselves from bullies. We have elementary school age kids committing suicide because of bullies. And yes, we have kids killing other kids because they are bullied. Like it or not. Accept it or not. The way kids treat other kids in school IS part of the equation.
Just because it isn't YOUR kid, doesn't mean it's not happening. Ignoring the factors that make us uncomfortable won't bring solutions. Whether it's gun control or bullying. Being honest with ourselves will.
