Yesterday, I was watching the Bundesliga match between SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund. BVB had the ball almost all the time, but somehow, they didn't manage to create those fantastic chances that eventually lead to goals. In the end, the match ended with a 2-1 victory for SC Freiburg.
Of course, there will be ups and downs in a season for any team, but looking at what BVB did yesterday, I highly doubt that they will stand a chance among the top teams in the German Bundesliga this season. They will, of course, win lots of matches, but unless the rest of the teams fail a lot, I do not believe that they will have a chance against Bayern Munchen and the other teams that will be among the top teams in the Bundesliga this year.
Erling Haaland might be a fantastic striker, but he isn't capable of taking an average team to the top of the Bundesliga. And to be honest, yesterday, he wasn't able to create almost anything at all. Of course, he is capable of creating something out of nothing, and he could have scored a goal yesterday as well, but still - BVB owned the ball, but they didn't manage to create the chances and to put a constant pressure on the Freiburg keeper.
It might be hard to draw a conclusion based on one single match, but still, I wasn't very impressed by what I saw yesterday. And Bellingham, who is supposed to be one of the big stars on BVB, had a really crappy day yesterday. He did mistake after mistake, and it simply didn't end.
What about Manchester United
Just like some people expect BVB to really fight for the trophy in Germany, many people expect the Red Devils to fight for the trophy in England. They had a fantastic season-opening last weekend, but will they be able to continue today? Or will they do like BVB and follow with a lousy second match after a great season opening?
There are many similarities between the teams, except for the fact that Manchester United strengthened their squad this summer, while BVB didn't really get any amazing new signings.
Time will show!
