DIY Bushcraft Knife - Upcycling A Metalworking File #3 - 'Re-Source' - Eggstatic #182

in bushcraft •  6 years ago

Hello All,

@eggstatic will become a chronological 're-source' for all my documented (video or otherwise) achievements in the last 10 years or so of my hobby/lifestyle activities, primarily but not exclusively related to my paragliding and/or paramotoring exploits.

Everything I post within this steemit realm will be my own original content, some of it may require the dust blowing off it ;)

My original Wordpress blog has a lot more information regarding the experimental paramotor side of things on offer for those of you with an inquisitive or inventive streak: https://eggmotor.wordpress.com/

Description taken from my YouTube channel:

Profiling the knife handle with with a sanding disc on the angle grinder first, then filing, hand-sanding and finally the application of silicone oil. [Part #3]

Thank you for stopping by and helping me to relive my finest moments.

Great results there Egg. Making things from scratch or upcycling are great skills to have.

Hi PVUK, many thanks bud :)
I enjoyed making it, my downfall is trying to get a good edge on it....... I need some proper 'stones' for it :)

I got a good Japanese stlyle stone at Junction 32. That combined with an old leather belt, did the trick for me.

Cheers PVUK, I strop disposable razor blades on my jeans held taut occasionally. Seems to increase the lifespan a little :)

Was it Far North Bushcraft on his channel stated that with your knife you should only need to sharpen once and strop forever?

I've got some old rusty files in the barn.

This could be a great use for them...

Hi pennsif, either for blades or snap/grind them into 3-4 inch sections and use the edges of the files for flint n steel fire starting :)

Thanks for the tips.

Holy crap, that turned out really good. What a great idea for old files, now you got my wheels turning. Thanks for posting this.
