2nd Book Recommendation for 2018: Rework

I just completed listening to the audiobook version of Rework by the authors Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in business at any stage: planning to start one, startup or conservatively scaling.

The authors take an atypical approach to starting and building a business. Author, Jason Fried, is one of the founders of 37signals - a web applications development company - behind well-known applications Basecamp, Backpack, Campfire, and Highrise.

In this relatively short book, the authors use straightforward language and simple-is-better approach, as the perfect playbook for anyone who’s ever dreamed of doing it on their own. Seasoned entrepreneurs, small business owners, people stuck in day jobs they hate, victims of "downsizing," and creative folks who don’t want to starve anymore will all find valuable guidance in these pages.

Check out these video trailers for the book to get an idea of some of the issues that are addressed:

The key topics covered in the book include:

  1. A new way to look at your business
  2. Some contrarian takedowns
  3. Getting sh** done
  4. Reviewing your progress
  5. Evaluating your productivity
  6. Smart hiring ideas
  7. Handling your competitors
  8. Your business evolution
  9. Modern marketing methods
  10. What to do when things go wrong
  11. Defining your company culture

I stumbled onto the audiobook in YouTube: Rework. I am not sure if this is an authorised upload. Perhaps you could check it out to get an impression of the messages covered in the book, before you purchase your own copy.

Summary: An excellent book for anyone who is planning to start a business or busy with a startup or working on scaling their business.
